The Los Angeles Kings have signed forward Brian O'Neill to a one year Entry Level Contract on Thursday, March 15th.
Brian O'Neill is a 23 year old forward who just finished playing for Yale University as they were knocked out of the playoffs by Harvard in his senior year. O'Neill played for Yale for 4 years led the Yale Hockey team for points in the last 3 of those 4 years. He has also led his team for goals for 2 years, and is 2nd for goals. Among ECAC players O'Neill is ranked 3rd for goals and points as well as being ranked 6th for assists. Following a 26 point rookie season, O'Neill had a 45 point sophomore season and two 46 point seasons.
Brian O'Neill was eligible for draft since 2006, but was never drafted. This is likely due to his lack of size. At 5-foot-8, 165 pounds Brian is not an intimidating force physically as most players are. Los Angeles Kings has not had the scoring touch they need this season, which is most likely the reason for this signing. With a one year contract on hand, O'Neill will need to prove that he can handle the size difference on the ice and will also have to prove that he can be the goal scorer they are looking for.
Los Angeles signing rating: B-, talented kid that lacks size. Has a lot to prove
