Norfolk Breaks AHL Record

On Sunday afternoon, The Tampa Bay Lightning's AHL affiliate, The Norfolk Admirals broke the record for the most consecutive wins with 18 in a row. The American Hockey League (AHL) has never had a team reach these numbers in all 76 seasons that the AHL has been around. Not only that, but the NHL's Consecutive win record is only 17 in a row meaning the Norfolk Admirals have one more win than the current NHL Consecutive win streak record holds as well. The record was broken yesterday when the Admirals beat the Charlotte Checkers 5-0.

The Previous record holders, the Philadelphia Phantoms, won 17 in a row during the 2004-05 season. The Phantoms had the likes of R.J. Umberger, Patrick Sharp, Dennis Seidenberg, Joni Pitkanen, Randy Jones, Ben Eager, Jeff Carter, Mike Richards, and Antero Nittymaki in they're lineup at some point during the season. Quite the allstar lineup for sure.

The new record holders may not have the most recognizable names right now, but will likely become that much like the Phantoms were. However the ones who you may or may not recognize right now are Carter Ashton (prior to trade to the Leafs), Richard Panik, Dana Tyrell, Blair Jones, and Dustin Tokarski. All of which have, or will be in the NHL.Both Tokarski and Jaroslav Janus broke a franchise record during this steak having 8 consecutive wins each.

Here's a video of a News report from when they tied the record with their 17th straight win.
