Cole Schneider The Sen

The Ottawa Senators have signed Left Winger Cole Schneider to a two year Entry Level Contract on March 14th.

21 year old Cole Schneider has spent his last 2 years playing for the University of Connecticut in the AHA. During his rookie season in 2010-11 he had 13 goals and 20 assists for 33 points, and 30 penalty minutes in 37 games. This season he had 23 goals and 22 assists for 45 points, 45 penalty minutes and a +/- rating of 0 in 38 games. The 23 goals is a new record by a UConn player in a single season. His 78 points is the most ever achieved by a UConn sophomore player. In his Rookie season om the AHA, Schneider won the Thomas Jacquard Award as the team's most valuable player. He also had two seasons playing in the NAHL where he got 33 points in 42 games during the 2008-09 season followed by a season where he got 39 points in 29 games.

Schneider is a great power forward with great puck control. He is able to get into the dirty areas and is willing to give it all to get the goal. The size he added prior to his sophomore season helped him protect the puck more. Though he isn't the one to always use his size, he is willing to when needed. Though having a great offensive upside, this 6-foot-2, 185 pound winger has a weaker defensive side. He blocks shots when he can, but doesn't think quick enough on the defensive end. Schneider was never drafted during his entry draft year.

Ottawa signing rating: B-, great offensive upside, adds more prospect depth
