Tyler Bunz Signed

The Edmonton Oilers have signed Goaltender Prospect Tyler Bunz to a three year Entry Level Contract today.

Tyler Bunz has spent his last 5 season's playing for the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The last 3 seasons he has played a minimum of 56 gaames. Three years ago, in 2009-10 he had a record of 31-19-5 with 2.91 GAA and 0.898SV% in 57 games. The next season, in 2010-11, Bunz had a record of 35-13-8, 2.47GAA and 0.919SV% in 56 games. This season in a whopping 61 games played, Bunz has a record of 39-17-5, 2.57GAA and a save percentage of 0.921%.

Bunz, who was a 5th round pick for the Oilers (121st overall), is a positionally and technically sound goalie. Though he isn't the largest of goalies (6-foot-1, 198 pounds) he works well and is said to have great mental strength for a goaltender. Though he did not make the Canadian roster for the WJC he is expected to have a real good possibility of becoming an NHL starter. With an ageing Khabibulin, Bunz has a great chance of at least making the Oilers starter, but has Dubnyk to compete with for a starter. Though the thing is, with goaltenders, or really any prospect in general, nothing is a guarantee.

Edmonton signing rating: B, locked up a great goaltending prospect
