Benn Back

The Dallas Stars recalled D Jordie Benn from the Texas Stars of the AHL. The 24 year old defenseman was never drafted, but signed by the stars in 2011. Benn recorded 1 assist in his 2 games with the club back in January of this year. Those two games are the only two games played by Jordie in the NHL. Dallas coach Glen Gulutzan knows Jordie Benn well as he coached the 24 year old in the AHL last season.

Benn has recorded 28 points in 56 games in the AHL this season. Benn brings a good offensive presence to the Dallas blue line as well as a solid physical presence. Jordie is a great puck moving defenseman who has a great hockey sense. However Jordie is smaller and so is normally pushed around from some of the bigger players. The Stars will need him to play solid 2-way hockey if they are to remain atop the division.

Benn has been brought up to help an injury stricken Stars defence. D Sheldon Sourray is out with a lower body injury, while D Mark Fistric is out with a hand injury.

The 24 year old will be reunited with his brother, F Jaimie Benn, for the Stars on Tuesday night as they take on the Minnesota Wild. The Benn brothers are the sixth pair of brothers to play for the Dallas Stars Franchise, with the last two being Derian and Kevin Hatcher in 1996.
