The San Jose Sharks have signed Sebastian Stalberg to a 2 year Entry Level Contract on Wednesday March 14th.
Stalberg, 21, has played for the University of Vermont of the H-East the past 3 seasons, the last 2 he led his team for scoring. While playing in his Junior Season in 2009-10, Sebastian got 6 goals and 13 assists for 19 points in 36 games. In the next season, his sophomore season, Sebastian recorded 9 goals and 19 assists for 28 points in 36 games. To continue his trend Sebastian finished this season with 12 goals and 19 assistas for 31 points in 34 games. This season Vermont finished last place with only 6 wins all season long.
Stalberg has now decided to forgo his senior year to sign a two-way contract with the San Jose sharks. At 6-foot, 187 pounds Sebastian is much smaller compared to his brother Viktor. Viktor Stalberg is at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds and currently plays for the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL. Viktor also left prior to his senior year at Vermont after having a 3rd season where he got 24 goals and 22 assists for 46 points in 39 games in 2008-09 (one year before Sebastian started playing for Vermont).
The San Jose sharks signed the Forward hoping he can be like his brother is. This contract will be a true trial for the young brother. The Sharks are known for signing or drafting Hockey East talent. in recent years they have added the likes of Nick Petrecki (BC), Torrey Mitchell (UVM), Brodie Reid (NU), Benn Ferreiro (BC), John McCarthy (BU), Matt Jones (MC), Joe Loprieno (MC), James Marcou (UMA), Matt Irwin (UMA), and Justin Braun (UMA).
