Florida gets a 33 year old forward who mainly plays a depth role for his teams. Florida found a player that they could get cheap to help their depth for playoffs. Smithson seems to be struggling this year as he has only 5 points in 56 games (3 of which he has played with Florida). Florida will look to have him get his game back as they will want to use him and his playoff experience for this year's playoffs.
Nashville trades a depth player for a pick to make room for their deadline deals of Gaustad and Kostitsyn. Interesting that when trying to make deals to help them in the playoffs they deal away a player that is good within the playoffs.
