Fasth, 29, just finished his second season in the Swedish Elite League and he is currently representing his country in the IIHF World Championships. Fasth had a great season for AIK in the SEL. In 46 games played he had a 2.12 goals against average, .931 save percentage and 5 shutouts. He was awarded the Elitserien Goalie of the Year "Honken Trophy" for the second year in a row. In 2010-11, Fasth had an incredible season as he won the "Honken Trophy" and the "Guldpucken" for being the Elitserien Best Player. In two years in the SEL he has been able to make a massive impact from the crease.
This World Championships is the second year in a row that he has represented Sweden between the pipes. Last year, he was very impressive in Sweden's silver medal run. In 7 games he posted a 1. 71 goals against average and had a .946 save percentage. After the tournament in 2011 he was named: World Championships Best Goaltender, World Championship All-Start Team and the World Championship Most Valuable Player. He began to draw serious attention from NHL clubs after that great season but he decided to continue is journey in the Swedish Elite League for another season. He is looking to up last year's World Championship performance and lead the Swedes to the gold medal this time.
When the Anaheim Ducks finalize the deal with Fasth, they will be more confident with their goaltending for the upcoming season than they were this past season. Dan Ellis, Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers and Iiro Tarkki all were part of the backup netminding role for the Ducks but all of them had their struggles in the limited time they were given. Fasth would be considered a rookie but he is an experienced rookie as he was played in the SEL and the World Championships.
When the Ducks do finalize this deal:
Ducks Signing Rating: A, could become a great NHL goalie as he has showcased his great goaltending on every stage that he was played so far in his career
