Bruce Boudreau Inked

Yeah! I have a job!

It looks like Bruce Boudreau won't have to rely on television broadcasting to have a job next year.

The Anaheim Ducks have signed Boudreau to a two-year extension after he was hired this season to replace Randy Carlyle.

Boudreau was hired on November 30th, just two days after he was fired from his gig in Washington. Despite being 12-9-1 with the Capitals through 22 games, Boudreau was given the boot, seemingly because of disagreements he had been having with star Alex Ovechkin.

The Ducks were 6-13-4 in their 23 games under Carlyle early in the season and were 14th in the west, just 1 point up on Columbus and 12 points out of a playoff spot. Under Boudreau the Ducks went 27-23-8, finishing 13th in the west with 80 points, but they put up one of the best records after the all-star break.

He got his first NHL coaching job with the Capitals on November 22, 2007 taking over for the fired Glen Hanlon. When Boudreau took over the team was 6-14-1 and he took them on a 37-17-7 run the rest of the year to finish first in the Southeast division and earned him the Jack Adams Award awarded to the NHL's best coach.

In his 4 full seasons as the Capitals coach, Boudreau led them to first in the Southeast division each year, even winning the President's trophy in 2009-10.

Wow! We did great in the regular season. No wonder I was
only out of a job 2 days.

Despite their regular season success, Boudreau could never guide the Capitals deep in the playoffs. They did not make it past the second-round in any of his 4 seasons.

Boudreau reached 200 NHL wins the fastest of any coach in the modern era, and won 184 games in his first 300 games behind the bench, the most of any coach in his first 300 games.
