Pelss And Oilers Agree to 3

The Edmonton Oilers have signed Left Wing Kristians Pelss to a 3 year Entry Level Contract.

Pelss, 19, has finished his 2nd season with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL. In his rookie season Pelss recorded 14 goals and 19 assists for 33 points with 31 penalty minutes and a +/- rating of +11 in 63 games. This season Pelss stepped it up scoring 28 goals and 22 assists for 50 points with 95 penalty minutes and a +/- rating of +34 in 63 games. Pelss played in the playoffs with his WHL team both years. The first year Pelss scored no goals, but recorded 2 assists and 6 penalty minutes in 4 games. This season Pelss got 4 goals and 3 assists for 7 points with 2 penalty minutes in 10 games.

At 5-foot-11, 187 pounds Pelss has a lot of growing to do. Pelss isn't exactly know for his offense either, though what he is known for is his great two-way play. Pelss is a player that will work hard to get into the dirty and gritty areas. He is Hockey smart and is skilled in his two-way play. Though he does not have the size or offensive ability to become a top tier forward, he could become a solid depth player much like Darren Helm of the Detroit Red Wings have become. Pelss has played for Latvia the past two World Junior Championships. The Oilers organization had lots of chances to watch him during his WHL career as he played in Edmonton just like the Oilers.

The Oilers had up until June 1st to sign their 7th round pick in the 2010 Entry draft (181st overall). The Oilers have the same amount of time to sign defenseman Brandon Davidson of the Regina Pats, and forward Drew Czerwonka of Kootenay before they are re-entered into the draft pool for this upcoming draft.

Oilers Signing Rating: C, not a lot of potential, but with the right work, could become a great depth player.
