The Ontario Hockey League announced the three All-Star teams earlier today. Each all-star team consists of three forwards, two defenseman, one goalie and one coach.
The Second All-Star Team:
Forwards:
Sean Monahan - C - Ottawa 67's --- The 17 year-old center scored 33 goals and assisted on 45 goals in 62 games in his second OHL season. He was third on the 67's in points with 78. Monahan had 38 penalty and a plus/minus rating of +25. He is a top ranked prospect for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
Tanner Pearson - LW - Barrie Colts --- Pearson improved immensely from his OHL rookie season last year. This season he scored 37 goals and had 54 assists for 91 points in 60 games, along with 37 penalty minutes and had a plus/minus rating of +21. Pearson will enter his third NHL draft this June as he went undrafted in the 2010 and 2011 NHL drafts, but this year he can be ranked anywhere from late first round to the middle of the third round.
Seth Griffith - RW - London Knights --- Griffith led the London Knights in goals and points this season. In 68 games, Griffith scored 45 goals and had 40 assists for 85 points. He had 49 penalty minutes and a +24 rating. He did not get drafted in the 2011 NHL draft which he was eligible for, so the over-ager is hoping to be drafted in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Defenseman:
Cody Ceci - D - Ottawa 67's --- Cody Ceci has an outstanding season with the 67's in all aspects of the game. In his third Ontario Hockey League season the 17 year-old, scored 17 goals and had 43 assists in 64 games. He posted a plus/minus rating of +21 and only took 12 minor penalties all seasosn. NHL Central Scouting has Ceci ranked 6th overall for the 2012 NHL draft.
Ryan Murphy - D - Kitchener Rangers --- The Kitchener Ranger defenseman averaged over a point a game for the second time in his three year OHL career. In 49 games, Ryan Murphy scored 11 goals and added 43 assists. He had 30 penalty minutes and was a plus 14. He was limited to 49 because on November 4th, 2011 he suffered a brutal late hit Niagara IceDogs forward; Tom Kuhnhackl. Kuhnhackl was suspended 20 games for the cheap shot.
Goaltender:
Mark Visentin - G - Niagara IceDogs --- Mark Visentin's (above) 4th OHL season was a very impressive one and certainly his best season by far. He posted a record of 30-9-2 in 42 games. He missed sever games due to playing for Canada at the World Junior Championships in December 2011 and January 2012. He led the league in goals against average with a 1.99 GAA, which was .37 better than anyone other goaltender in the league. He .926 save percentage was the third best save percentage in the OHL. He also led the league in shutouts with 10 despite playing in only 42 games. Visentin was drafted 27th overall in the 2010 NHL Draft by the Phoenix Coyotes.
Coach:
Steve Spott - Kitchener Rangers --- In his 4th season as the head coach of the Kitchener Rangers, Spott coached them to the 4th best record in the OHL despite being in the same division as the London Knights who posted the best record. The Rangers had a record of 42-24-2 this season and he led them to the Western Conference Finals in playoffs.
