OHL 1st team All-Stars

The Ontario Hockey League announced the three All-Star teams earlier today. Each all-star team consists of three forwards, two defenseman, one goalie and one coach.

The First All-Star Team

Forwards:

Michael Sgarbossa - C - Sudbury Wolves  --- In his 5th season in the Ontario Hockey League Sgarbossa led the league in points with 102. He scored 47 goals and had 55 helpers in 66 games. He added 68 penalty minutes and had a plus/minus rating of +21. Sgarbossa is an undrafted player but he was signed by the San Jose Sharks on September 21st, 2010. He was then traded to the Colorado Avalanche at this season's trade deadline along with Jamie McGinn and Mike Connolly in exchange for T.J. Galiardi, Daniel Winnik and a 7th round pick.

Brandon Saad - LW - Saginaw Spirit --- Saad (right) was drafted to the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2nd round of the 2011 NHL draft and he made the Blackhawks out of camp, but only played 2 games before being sent back down to the OHL. Saad played 44 games this season and scored 34 goals and had 42 assists for 76 points, along with 38 penalty minus and a plus/minus rating of +35.

Tyler Toffoli - RW - Ottawa 67's ---Toffoli was the only other player in the OHL other than Sgarbossa to notch 100 points or more. In his 4th OHL season, Toffoli totaled 52 goals and 48 assists for 100 points in 65 games. His plus/minus rating was +21. Toffoli was selected by the Los Angeles Kings, 47th overall in the 2010 NHL draft.

Defenseman:


Dougie Hamilton - D - Niagara IceDogs --- He led all OHL defenseman in scoring with 72 points in only 50 games. He was lethal on the Niagara blueline with 17 goals and 55 assists. He had 47 penalty minutes and he was +37 on the season. The 6-foot-7 defenseman was selected 9th overall in the 2011 NHL draft by the Boston Bruins.

Scott Harrington - D - London Knights --- Harrington was very valuable to the London Knights this season as he was a great shutdown defenseman with offensive abilities. The 19 year-old defense in his third OHL season scored 3 goals and had 23 assists in 44 games. Harrington added 32 penalty minutes and had a plus/minus rating of +26. His plus/minus rating improved by +40 from the 2010-11 season. He was drafted 54th overall by the  Pittsburgh Penguins last June at the 2011 NHL draft.

Goaltender:


Michael Houser - G - London Knights --- Houser had incredible season between the pipes for the London Knights as he was awarded the Most Outstanding Player in the Ontario Hockey League. He played in 62 game for the Knights this season.  He posted a 46-15-1 record along with a 2.47 goals against average, .925 save percentage and 6 shutouts. Despite being 19, Houser will enter the 2012 NHL draft again in hope of being selected by an NHL team.

Coach:

Greg Gilbert - Saginaw Spirit --- Gilbert was the third and final head coach of the Saginaw Spirit during the 2011-12 season. He took over behind the bench when the Spirit had a 13-17-2 record. Gilbert was determined to change the shape of the team and create it into a team that was capable having a winning record and make the playoffs. With Gilbert in head coaching duties the Spirit had a record of 20-10-6 and ended the season with a winning record. He was able to bring out in players what the previous coaches could not.
