Stoner Signed
Clayton Stoner has signed a 2-year extension with the Minnesota Wild at $2.1 million over the 2 seasons.
Stoner appeared in 51 games for the Wild this season recording 1 goal and 5 points. He finished with a plus-minus of +3, the only defenceman for the Wild to have a positive rating.
Stoner was drafted in the 3rd round, 79th overall, in the 2004 entry draft by the Wild. He finally broke into the NHL in 2010-11, playing 57 games scoring 2 goals and 9 points.
With this signing, the Wild now have all of their defencemen signed through at least next season.
After their hot start to the season, the Wild fizzled out and finished 12th in the west, 14 points out of a playoff spot. Their offense scored the least goals of any NHL team with 177, yes that's even less than the Los Angeles Kings who's offensive struggles were often discussed. The Kings scored 194 goals, 17 more than the Kings.
Minnesota hopes the resigning of Stoner to keep the blueline intact will help out goalie Nicklas Backstrom and hopefully the offence will step it up.
Signing Rating: B+ The Wild resign their only positive plus-minus defenceman at a very reasonable dollar amount. He's 27, so he's in his prime and will look to continue to play solid defence.
