Will Weber Gets an ELC

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defense prospect Will Weber to a two year Entry Level Contract yesterday.

Will Weber has played four seasons for Miami University (Ohio) in the CCHA as well as one season for the Chicago Steel in the USHL prior to the CCHA. While playing for the Chicago steel in the 2007-08 season, Weber recorded 8 goals and 10 assists for 18 point in 46 games along with 137 penalty minutes and a +/- rating of 12.

Following his season in the USHL, Weber would join recently signed Connor Knapp (See Knapp Article Here) on the University of Miami hockey team. In his rookie season with the club, Weber would record 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 points, and 75 penalty minutes in 38 games. He would continue in that area for his sophomore season getting 1 goal and 9 assists for 10 points and 62 penalty minutes in 43 games played. In his final two seasons, Weber would continue to be slow for contributing offensively scoring 1 goal and 10 assists for 11 points with 57 penalty minutes in 33 games and no goals, 4 assists, and 69 penalty minutes in 40 games played.

With a big size of 6-foot-4, 205 pounds, Weber is a terror on the ice and is known for his defensive capabilities. However he has some great offensive upside due to his size and skating ability. Though he was chosen in the 2nd round (53rd overall) in the 2007 entry draft, he was considered by some to be worthy of a last 1st round pick.

Columbus Signing Rating: C, most likely just going to be a depth defenseman going up and down between the AHL and NHL
