Ray Emery Extended

29 year old Goaltender Ray Emery has signed a 1 year, 1.15 million dollar contract extension with the Chicago Blackhawks.

After a year of being the 2nd/3rd string Goaltender for the Anaheim ducks, Ray Emery signed a tryout contract with the Blackhawks for this season. He would then sign a one year contract to go into this season as Crawford's backup. Emery would end up proving himself and basically shared the role of goaltender with Crawford playing 34 games this season. In those 34 games, Emery had a record of 15-9-4, 2.81 Goals Against Average, 0.900 Save Percentage, and no shutouts.

Emery told reporters that he's happy to get the contract. After being on multiple teams and not knowing what to expect, he happy to know that he will get the chance to stay in Chicago and play another season.

Emery will likely play as Crawford's backup again, though he has Salak on his tail who is a stellar goaltending prospect. The contract is a two-way deal meaning that Emery could be sent down if they want Salak up. Emery should be able to stay as backup as long as his hip stays fine, which has normally been his issue in the past.

Blackhawks signing rating: B-, a good backup with injury issues, but being only 1 yr injured player can get out of the contract easily.
