Konrad Abeltshauser Inked a 3 year Entry Level Contract with the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday, April 11th.
Konrad has just finished his 3rd season playing in the QMJHL for the Halifax Mooseheads. During his rookie season with Halifax the defenceman recorded 5 goals and 20 assists for 25 points in 48 games with 28 penalty minutes and a +/- rating of -26. In his sophomore season Abeltshauser scored a total of 8 goals and 19 assists for 27 points, 47 penalty minutes and a +/- rating of -36 in 58 games. This season he stepped it up scoring 8 goals and 36 assists for 44 points with 30 penalty minutes and a +/- rating of +17 in 57 games. He has also played in the QMJHL playoffs twice, once during the 2010-11 season where he recorded 3 goals and no assists in 4 games, then this season where he scored 2 goals and 4 assists for 6 points with 8 penalty minutes in 6 games.
At 6-foot-5, 212 pounds, Abeltshauser has a huge body, but surprisingly skates pretty well with it. His presence can always be felt at the blueline. His shot has improved over the seasons and can only get better. This 6th round draft pick for the sharks (163rd overall) will most likely get plenty of chances to get into the Sharks lineup. He has a few humps to go over with prospects, such as Doherty, but his size should make it easier to do so.
Sharks Signing Rating: B-, Big strong defenseman with offence ability
