Shtalenkov

Metallurg Magnitogorsk's goalie coach went missing after a flight home to Moscow.

After Metallurg was knocked out of the Gagarin Cup on Thursday and returned home to Magnitogorsk, former NHL goaltender Mikhail Shtalenkov headed for home. He landed in the Vnukovo airport in Moscow on Sunday, where he called his wife but did not return home.

His wife reported him missing to the police who began to search for him.

Shtalenkov had stints in the NHL with Florida, Anaheim, Phoenix and Edmonton from 1993 to 2000. He was part of the gold medal winning Unified team in the Albertville games in 1992. The gold medal occurred the year before he was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks.

Shtalenkov reportedly phoned home after seeing his name on the news. He immediately disappeared after the phone call.

After several hours of search, he was found alive and safe. The missing Shtalenkov case seems to be a complete misunderstanding.

"It turned out he was getting drunk with his friends. Case closed," said police.

Although the case is closed their may be more to the story. Interestingly enough he was gone for three full days, getting drunk. The question remains, why did he not tell his wife his location?
