Regin Re-Signs

The Ottawa Senators has resigned Peter Regin to a one way, one year contract worth 800,000 dollars. Regin is taking a 200,000 dollar pay-cut because he wants to remain in Ottawa and prove his worth to the team. The center has struggled with injuries in his time with Ottawa. He suffered a season ending shoulder injury this season after only 10 games. He had to have surgery on his left shoulder and it became the second time in less than a year that he has had surgery on that shoulder. The 26 year old did have 2 goals and 2 assists in those 10 games that he was able to play in.

Many people thought with the likes of young players in; Mika Zibanejad, Mark Stone and Jakub Silfverberg, that Regin was going to test the free agent market to see who was interested in him. But with Regin staying put it appears that he will  be trying to make the Sens as a 3rd line center as they acquired Kyle Turris from the Phoenix Coyotes this season and he is slotted in as the 2nd line center.

Regin is sure that his shoulder will heal and he will be ready to go and be able to play to the best of his ability for the 2012-13 season. As he stated in on Friday, "My shoulder is feeling really good and I will be back to 100 percent when camp starts."

In his four years in Ottawa, the Danish forward has scored 19 goals and has 33 assists in 151 games. In the 2009-10 playoffs it appeared that Regin was beginning to break out as he scored 3 goals and had 1 assist in a 6 game opening series loss, but he was unable to carry any momentum into the 2010-11 campaign as he only scored 3 goals in 55 games.

Regin is excited to get the chance to be inserted back into the lineup for next season and he is confident that he will be able to have a positive impact on the team each day.

Ottawa Signing Rating: B+, if he pans out great, but if he doesn't  it is a cheap contract and only a one year, so its a no risk, high reward signing
