Moving to Management

His last hockey sweater?

Recent media star, Sergei Fedorov made a splash again today. Rumours of his move to management have been circling for months.

Fedorov may have finished his playing career after his club, Metallurg Magnitogorsk, were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Gagarin Cup. Fedorov doesn't feel that his body can do another season, but his mind says different.

The future Hall of Famer recorded 22 points in 43 games for his KHL club. Although he has not confirmed his retirement, it is highly likely. Especially now that he has reportedly accepted a General Manager job for CSKA Moscow.

"Sergei came to the club office where the day before [on Friday] he met with the general director of the club, Alexei Khudyakov, and both were satisfied [with the meeting]," a source within the club told R-Sport news agency.

His stint with the Army men in Moscow would likely be the end to a marvellous career. Moscow has not confirmed his hiring.

How Detroit fans will react to his retirement and move to management remains to be seen. The names of Shanahan, Yzerman and Fedorov are some of the brightest moments in Red Wings history. Although Fedorov's leave was frustrating for fans, his skill must be respected.
