Kuznetsov Staying Put

The wait in Washington for prospect Evgeny Kuznetsov just got longer. Kuznetsov announced to Sovsport that he will spend the next two seasons in the Kontinental Hockey League.

Evgeny Kuznetsov
A deal has been made with Traktor Chelyabinsk that locks up the superstar through the 2013/14 season. Although the contract has not been signed, the details have been worked out. Kuznetsov feels confident in his club's ability and see it as a great opportunity for his own growth.

Kuznetsov reportedly claimed that he is not ready for the National Hockey League at this time. In my opinion, I think that Kuznetsov is simply using this to distract the media. He is tired of being hounded by the press and would like to enjoy the off-season. The Alexander Radulov controversy that saw the Nashville Predators acquire an offensive weapon right before the playoffs has caused problems. There is more pressure on players to leave their homeland. Whether or not the NHL even sees Kuznetsov is still a big question without an answer.

No ordinary player is capable of getting 7 goals in just 12 playoff games upon returning from injury. Kuznetsov is clearly an elite talent that could make the North American move if he wanted. This is a matter of want, not capability.

Washington does not have the time to worry about this setback. With an impressive playoff run on the go and star talent like Braden Holtby distracting the masses. When the playoffs end, the Capitals will not be happy with this. Looking forward, this could be quite costly for the club.
