Rick Nash - Destination Unkown

With an absolutely horrid season so far the Columbus Blue Jackets appear to be blowing up their team.

Finally.

The Blue Jackets has expressed that really everyone that is not one of their prospects are available. The names mentions the most is Umberger, Vermette, Stanford, Brassard, Carter and...wait for it...Rick Nash. Yes finally they are willing to save him of his misery.

Now Rick Nash has a no trade clause. So he has given the Blue Jackets a list of less than 10 teams that he is willing to be traded to. That list is believed to consist of The Los Angeles Kings, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, San Jose Sharks, Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers. Jackets GM has stated that for Nash he is looking for a young roster player, a top prospect and a decent pick. So the question is, which of these teams could make this type of deal?

  • Los Angeles Kings has shown for multiple seasons now that the WANT a goal scoring winger. They tried with Kovalchuk big time, didn't win him, and so has been desperate for one ever since. What they could give up: Penner, Gagne, Stoll, Johnson, Voynov, Williams, toffoli, Bernier. With CBJ looking for a young roster player and Johnson not wanting to go there I'm not sure if I do see them getting Nash. Maybe Carter, or a deal like Williams, Voynov, Bernier and a 3rd, but that's a little much.
  • San Jose Sharks love their high price wingers, but is it worth it to them? They could move: Clowe, Demers, Vlasic, Nittymakki, Stalock, so maybe a Clowe, Demers, 1st round pick type deal could get him, but in my opinion it is not worth it to them
  • New York Rangers loves big contracts. However with two great Right wings in Gaborik and Callahan and the rest of their great top 6, why would they even need Nash? What they need is a good offensive defenseman with playoff experience.
  • Boston Bruins are currently looking to sign all of their UFAs to extensions. Clearly they love their team how it is and the chemistry is has, so why ruin the chemistry to get a player like Nash?
  • Toronto make some sense to me. Yes, they need a playmaking centerman above all other things, but they need help on their 2nd line as well and has the tools to get Nash. I could see a deal like MacArthur, Schenn, 1st for nash, or MacArthur, Schenn, Kadri, 3rd for Nash. This would really help their playoff push.
  • I would put the Vancouver Canucks in the same boat as the Boston Bruins, with even more fire power. They are able to do it, but what's the point?
Now overall, if I was Columbus, I wouldn't trade Nash till the offseason. During this tradedeadline season there will be less teams looking to get him as some have become sellers and some just like their team how it is, such as Boston. While at the offseason there could be 8-10 teams really interested in him for multiple reasons such as they got knocked out of playoffs early etc.
