The Bruins Just Got Tougher

The Trade:

Boston Bruins acquire: D Greg Zanon
Minnesota Wild acquire: D Steve Kampfer

The Minnesota Wild have acquired the 22 year old defensemen Kampfer who has been playing in the AHL. Over the past two seasons Kampfer has had stints with the Bruins playing 48 NHL games and recording 12 points and 16 penalty minutes. Kampfer has recorded 5 points in the AHL this year. Kampfer is a good replacement for the older Zanon. Kampfer might not have any impact with the Wild this season but he will be a great bottom 3 defensemen for the Wild for many years to come.

Boston Bruins just got a whole lot tougher with the addition of gritty defensemen Greg Zanon. Zanon has 6, points, 77 hits and 104 blocked shots over 39 games this season. Last year Zanon was second in the NHL with 212 blocked shots at seasons end, just behind Ranger defensemen, Dan Girardi. Greg Zanon will be huge on the penalty kill for the Boston Bruins as they go into the playoffs. Zanon will not help out a lot offensively but he and the Bruins know that is not his job.

Here is a clean hit by Zanon on Krejci, who he is now teammates with.

Trade Rating:

Boston Bruins - A, acquire another tough, gritty body for the road into the playoffs
Minnesota Wild - B+, acquire a younger defenseman who has decent potential
