Paul Maurice to KHL





Paul Maurice has just signed with Magnitogorsk of the KHL. Maurice a former Carolina Hurricane, Toronto Maple Leaf, and Hartful Whalers Head Coach. Maurice has coached for 15 years in the NHL and was on the bench for a total of 1084 games, 460 wins, and 4 playoff apperances. He helped Hurricane's win the southeast division in 1998-99 and 2001-02. He also has made it to the Stanley Cup finals once in the 2001-02 season with the Hurricanes. Maurice had a tough go this pass season (2011-12) as Carolina fired him after 25 regular season games with a record of 8-13-4.

Avalanche Signings

Coloarado have re-signed foward David Jones on Thursday June 8th, 2012 to a 4 year deal worth 16 million. The Avalanche did not stop there as they also re-signed Matt Hunwick to a 2 year deal.

“David has been one of our top offensive players over the past two seasons" said GM and Vice-President of the Avalanche Greg Sherman. Jones was drafted in the ninth round, 288th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry draft by the Avalanche. Jones is the lowest ever drafted player by the Avalanche to play in the NHL. David played his first game in the NHL in the 2007-08 season, where he went on to play 27 games in the season and 10 playoff games. Jones finished the 2011-12 season a total of 20 goals, 17 assist and 5 game winners in 72 games. He finished the season tied in 5th for points with McGinn. Jones best season was the 2010-11 season where he got 27 goals and 18 assist, Jones will be hoping to get back and maybe hit the 50 point total.

Birthplace: Warren, MI, United States
Hunwick was drafted in the 7th round, 224th overall in the 2004 NHL Entry draft by the Boston Bruins. Hunwick was traded to the Avalanche in the 2010-11 season from the Bruins for Colby Cohen. Matt put up 3 goals, 3 assist and was a -3 in the plus/minus catagory in 33 games this past season.

2012 LeagueItToUs mock NHL Entry Draft

The 2012 NHL entry draft will be taking place in Pittsburgh on June 22-23. Five of the League It To Us writers have entered their top 30 picks for this upcoming draft (Josh Daniels, Luke Rachar, Scott Navarro, Dylan McAteer, and Josh Heuving). The way the this mock draft works is the player with the lowest number rankings from the writers (ex. Josh H picks player A 1st, player B 2nd and then Luke picks player A 1st and player B 3rd. well player A will have 2 points and player B has 5 points). If the player does not get picked by one of the writers they drop down to the next round. Before we get to the results, here’s a look at some notable first round picks.
